Why Now Is a Great Time to Install a Solar System on Your Florida Home

It’s the Best Time to Install Solar Panels

Given that Florida’s nickname is the Sunshine state, it would make sense for this state to be a prime place to have a solar power system installed on a home, right? You might be surprised to know that Florida trails multiple states in solar usage and installations. That doesn’t mean you can ‘t take advantage of it though. Now is a great time to have a solar power system installed.

Get It Installed Before Peak Solar Energy Production

Most people think of summertime as being the prime time for solar energy production. As it happens though, Florida’s peak solar energy production is springtime. This is in part because Florida’s rainy season hasn’t hit yet, so there tends to be even more sun. The other part is that solar panels are typically rated for temperatures around 25 degrees Celsius (77 degrees Fahrenheit). As temperatures increase, the rate of energy production decreases, meaning that summertime isn’t going to produce energy as effectively as you might think. Getting your solar system installed before spring will allow you to take advantage of Florida’s peak energy production time.

No Sales Tax

Did you know that Florida doesn’t charge sales tax on solar systems? This is part of the Solar and CHP Sales Tax Exemption that was first introduced in 1977 and has since been made a permanent exception for Florida residents. Since Florida doesn’t charge you sales tax on the solar system you purchase, you net a 6% savings on whatever else you would have spent that money on. Keep in mind that the equipment must be certified by the Florida Solar Energy Center in order to qualify.

Net Metering

There is a good chance that at some point your solar power system will generate more power than you use. Because Florida has a net metering program, you can receive credits from your utility company for any extra power you produce. It’s a bit like a savings account for the power you generate with your system. Those credits can roll over for 12 months, which can really come in handy during months when your power usage exceeds what your solar system produces.

Now is a great time to have a solar power system installed on your Florida home. If you get it installed and set up now, you can take advantage of peak solar energy production, enjoy no sales tax, and take advantage of Florida’s net metering system. Be one of the trend setters in Florida and have solar panels installed on your home now to start enjoying the benefits they offer.
